Car Crash Safety
The advice given here on Car Crashs assumes that that immediate consequence of the car crash has been dealt with. As we have had some website visitors looking up the site while at the car crash scene we have decided to add a quick note on car crash safety:
- Do not become a casualty yourself or worsen your injuries – control traffic and put out warnings before attempting to help others.
- Do NOT smoke or use a mobile phone close to the crashed cars.
- Call 999 if there are casualties, damage to property or the road is obstructed. If in doubt dial 999 anyway.
- Car Crashs are a huge shock to the system so it is important to gather as much information as possible while still at the scene.
- Take as many photos as possible. Capture the car crash scene and crashed car from as many angles as you can. Ensure you include vehicle registration numbers, road markings and road signs. Mobile phones with a digital camera are perfect as most people carry them these days.
- Take down the details of the other driver and any passengers in the crashed car. Remember it is an offence for the other driver not to provide their details before leaving the scene of car crashs.
- Gather the names and telephone numbers of all witnesses. If they do not want to be a witness take a photo of their vehicle registration number so the Police can follow them up at a later date if required.
- Report car crashs to your insurer as quickly as possible.
- If you have been injured get a doctor’s report. Even if you don’t think you have been hurt it is wise to get a medical check up as adrenalin can mask injuries for many hours after car crashs.
